Opening a Workspace ❚❘❘ without the aspect ratio. Because computer monitors use square pixels, many standard output formats look "squashed" on-screen. By enabling Use Aspect Ratio (in the Window menu), images in a viewport are scaled so that you can see what your output looks like with the correct aspect ratio. Note: When enabling Use Aspect Ratio, make sure the Pixel Aspect Ratio for the Footage operator matches the aspect ratio of the source footage. For example, if you import PAL Anamorphic footage into a PAL D1 resolution composite, show the Footage Controls panel for the footage and make sure the Pixel Aspect Ratio is set to 1.422 in the Source controls. Creating Multiple Branches A workspace can include any number of branches. For example, you can work on various elements (such as painting on footage or keying a blue-screen clip) separately before combining them in a composite. The order of the branches in the Workspace panel is not important. When you choose File | New to create a branch or choose File | Open to open footage as a branch, the new branch is added to the top of the Workspace panel. If there are two or more branches, you can change the order by: • Changing the node links in the Schematic view (for example, adding an edge from one branch to a node in another branch). If you link the node farthest downstream in a branch, that branch joins the branch to which you link it. • Dragging the top operator (the one farthest downstream) down in the current branch makes the branch move to the bottom of the Workspace panel. This is the same as dragging another operator up to the top of the branch. • Importing a workspace adds its branches to the top. Note: You can take advantage of this behavior if you want to reorganize the branches; just remember that other actions can change the order again and the order may not be saved in the workspace file. Opening a Workspace In addition to creating workspaces, you can open a workspace that you previously saved to continue editing your work. You can modify all the objects, motion paths, effects, settings, filenames, and more. For information on saving a workspace, see Saving a Workspace. To open a workspace: 1. Choose File | Open Workspace (SHIFT+CTRL+O). 2. In the Open Workspace dialog, navigate to the appropriate directory and select the workspace file that you want to open, or type the path at the top of the dialog. In the Open Workspace dialog, you can see a thumbnail or list of each workspace file. Note: The thumbnail is the current operator in the viewport when the workspace was last saved. If you had the Schematic view open at the time, there is no thumbnail. If you were viewing a layer in Layer view, the workspace includes a thumbnail of the composite the layer is in. 3. Click OK (ENTER). The selected workspace is opened and appears in the Combustion viewport(s). (The viewport layout when you saved the file is used when you open it.) Finding or Replacing Missing Footage If you move a workspace file and the associated footage, and then open the workspace, Combustion automatically searches for the original footage in the new location. Note:

When enabling Use Aspect Ratio, make sure

Creating Multiple Branches

A workspace can include any number of branches.

For example, you can work on various elements

The order of the branches in the Workspace panel is

not important. When you choose File

New to create

a branch or choose File | Open to open footage as a

branch, the new branch is added to the top of the

Workspace panel.
