Adding an Edit Operator ❚❘❘ BG Color-Specifies the color of the background and any empty space on the timeline. When rendering, you can choose to output the background color, the alpha channel, or both. For more information, see "Rendering Your Work" in Chapter 31, "Rendering''. Duration-If Auto Adjust Duration is disabled, sets the duration of the operator either in frames or in SMPTE timecode. If Auto Adjust Duration is enabled, the Duration setting is ignored. Auto Adjust Duration-Is enabled by default. When enabled, sets the duration based on the length of the segments added to the Edit timeline or sets the duration to the duration specified in the Duration field. When disabled, sets the duration to the duration specified in the Duration field. Timeline Segments A segment in the Edit timeline represents a section of a clip that can be edited. The segment names, durations, and any available head and tail frames in the original source clip are displayed in the segments. Adding an Edit Operator As with the other operators in Combustion, you can add an Edit operator as a branch, as a layer within a composite, or output the result to any other operator. You can also add effects and operators to the Edit operator. There are several ways to create an Edit operator: • Open footage and create an Edit operator with the selected footage. The Edit operator settings are based on the size and duration of the first file you select in the Open file browser. See, "Creating Edit Operators" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. • Create an (empty) Edit operator and then import footage into it. You define the Edit operator settings such as frame size and duration. See, "Creating an Edit Operator" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. • Open footage into the Footage Library, then add an Edit operator to it. This operator can be added to footage like all other operators. See "Opening Footage and Creating Solid Footage" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. About Output Settings You generally specify output settings when you add the Edit operator. These settings include resolution, pixel aspect ratio, field interpretation, and so on. However, you can change these settings at any time. For instance, you may be working in NTSC DV, but decide you want to output your edited clips to Motion Picture 2K resolution instead. Adding an Edit Operator

BG Color

—Specifies the color of the background

and any empty space on the timeline.

When rendering, you can choose to output the

Duration

—If Auto Adjust Duration is disabled, sets

the duration of the operator either in frames or in

Auto Adjust Duration

—Is enabled by default.

When enabled, sets the duration based on the length

of the segments added to the Edit timeline or sets the

duration to the duration specified in the Duration

duration specified in the Duration field.
