Using Cameras ❚❘❘ You also can import any 3ds Max target cameras that have been saved to an ASCII Scene Export (*.ase) file. For information, see "Importing 3ds Max Target Cameras" in Appendix B, "Combustion and 3ds Max''. Selecting Cameras Before you can move or rotate a camera or change its properties, you must first select it. Selecting a camera makes it the current object. To select a camera: 1. Select a 3D composite. 2. Do one of the following: • In the Composite Controls panel, select Camera from the Current list. • If you are in any view other than Camera view, click the camera icon in a viewport. • Select a camera in the Workspace panel or Timeline. The selected camera is the current object. You can now move and rotate it. Moving and Rotating Camera You move and rotate the camera to set up your viewpoint. By changing the camera position on several frames, you can animate the viewpoint of the composite. Click Animate, go to a different frame, and then move the camera to set a keyframe. You can also create an expression to animate the camera. For more information on animating, see Chapter 12, "Creating Animations'' and see Chapter 13, "Creating Expressions''. Note: If you want to start the camera animation at another frame than the first frame and if you do not want a keyframe to be added automatically at the first frame, check the Combustion Preferences by choosing File | Preferences (CTRL+;), click the Animation category under Host, and make sure Automatically Add First Key Frame is not selected. To move the camera: 1. Select the camera. 2. To use the Transform controls to set values for the Camera position, click the Transform button and adjust the required fields. 3. To drag the camera to the required position in a viewport, click the Arrow tool in the Toolbar. 4. To constrain the movement to one or more axes, enable the required X, Y, and Z icons in the Toolbar. If you are in Perspective view, the camera icon moves to the new position. In Camera view, the active viewport displays the new viewpoint. To rotate the camera: 1. Select the camera. 2. To use the Transform controls to set values for the Camera rotation, click the Transform button and adjust the required fields. 3. To drag the camera to the required rotation in a viewport, click the Rotate tool in the Toolbar. 4. To constrain the movement to one or more axes, enable the required X, Y, and Z icons in the Toolbar. If you are in Perspective view, the camera icon moves to the new position. Targeting the Camera You can target the camera to an object or a layer to make the camera point at that object no matter where it is in 3D space. Once you set a target, the camera rotates to always point at the target even if the camera or target moves. This can be very useful for creating walkthroughs and other animations. Selecting Cameras
Before you can move or rotate a camera or change its
properties, you must first select it. Selecting a
camera makes it the current object.
To select a camera:
1.
Select a 3D composite.
2.
Do one of the following:
In the Composite Controls panel, select Camera
from the Current list.
If you are in any view other than Camera view,
click the camera icon in a viewport.
Select a camera in the Workspace panel or
Timeline.
The selected camera is the current object. You can
now move and rotate it.
