Video Filters ❚❘❘ You need to separate the fields to achieve the best image quality when moving, scaling, rotating, painting on, or compositing interlaced video, or to avoid "flicker" (from thin graphics such as text). There are two ways to deinterlace video in Combustion. For most compositing tasks, such as adding graphics or effects, or moving, scaling or rotating an interlaced clip, you can use the Field Separation settings in the Footage operator. For painting on individual fields, or other tasks where you need specific control over the way the fields are separated, use the Deinterlace and Interlace operators. When video footage is captured into the computer, the two fields are stitched together, or "interlaced" into a single frame. Since most computer monitors use progressive scan (the first line is displayed on the monitor, then the second line, then the third, and so on, until the frame is completely drawn), both fields of an interlaced video frame are shown simultaneously. Interlaced video frame About Interlacing NTSC video displays one frame approximately every 1/30th of a second, or 30 frames per second (fps). PAL and SECAM display one frame every 1/25th of a second (25 fps). NTSC television displays video at 60 fields per second (each field of a video frame is displayed separately). Since interlaced frames contain two fields, television updates its display twice to show a complete frame. The upper field is updated first, and the lower field is updated 1/60th of a second later. For PAL and SECAM, video is displayed at 25 fps, and the field rate is 50 fields per second. In interlaced display, the upper field is drawn, or "painted" first, followed by the lower field. Because the fields are separated in time (by 1/60th of a second for NTSC), a "combing" effect appears around moving objects in an interlaced frame. You need to separate the fields to achieve the best

image quality when moving, scaling, rotating,

painting on, or compositing interlaced video, or to

avoid “flicker” (from thin graphics such as text).

There are two ways to deinterlace video in

Combustion

. For most compositing tasks, such as

adding graphics or effects, or moving, scaling or

rotating an interlaced clip, you can use the Field

Separation settings in the Footage operator. For

painting on individual fields, or other tasks where

About Interlacing

NTSC video displays one frame approximately every

1/30th of a second, or 30 frames per second (fps).

PAL and SECAM display one frame every 1/25th of

a second (25 fps).

NTSC television displays video at 60 fields per

second (each field of a video frame is displayed

separately). Since interlaced frames contain two

fields, television updates its display twice to show a
