Importing Footage ❚❘❘ Importing Adobe Illustrator Files Combustion provides special import tools for Adobe Illustrator files. These tools provide you with different options for working with Adobe Illustrator files in Combustion. The options include: • Importing Adobe Illustrator files and preserving Illustrator objects as vector objects belonging in a Paint operator. • Rasterizing Adobe Illustrator files by rendering them to bitmap or movie file formats. This process creates a new file and imports it to the Combustion workspace in one integrated step. • Rasterizing Adobe Illustrator image sequences. This process creates a new image sequence or movie and imports it into the Combustion workspace in one integrated step. Importing Adobe Illustrator Files as Paint Operators When an Illustrator file is imported into Combustion as a Paint operator, Illustrator objects are converted into vector Paint objects. The objects can then be edited and animated in the Paint operator. Combustion preserves Illustrator object, layer, and path names. If your Illustrator file contains a filled and stroked object, Combustion creates two objects (one filled, one stroked) and groups them. The group name is the same as the object name in Illustrator. The sub objects are named "Fill" and "Stroke". To import an Adobe Illustrator file as a Paint operator: 1. Choose File | Open (CTRL+O). Note: You can also import Adobe Illustrator files directly into composites using the File | Import Footage command. 2. Use the file browser to locate the Adobe Illustrator file that you want to import. Select the file, and click OK. The Open Footage dialog appears. 3. Do one of the following: • Click 2D Composite to import the Adobe Illustrator file as a Paint operator belonging to a 2D Composite layer. • Click 3D Composite to import the Adobe Illustrator file as a Paint operator belonging to a 3D Composite layer. • Click Paint to import the Adobe Illustrator file as a Paint operator branch. • Click Edit to import the Adobe Illustrator file as a Paint operator belonging to an Edit operator segment. The Illustrator Import Modes dialog appears and the Illustrator file name appears in the dialog. 4. Do one of the following: • To create a Paint operator that contains one Paint object for every Illustrator object, click Individual Layers. • To create a Paint operator that contains one Paint object for every Illustrator object, all of which belong to a single group, click Grouped. 5. Click Process. Once completed, the new workspace appears. 103

Importing Adobe Illustrator Files

Combustion

provides special import tools for Adobe

Illustrator files. These tools provide you with

different options for working with Adobe Illustrator

files in

Combustion

. The options include:

•

Importing Adobe Illustrator files and preserving

Importing Adobe Illustrator Files as Paint

Operators

When an Illustrator file is imported into

Combustion

as a Paint operator, Illustrator objects

are converted into vector Paint objects. The objects

can then be edited and animated in the Paint

operator.

Combustion

preserves Illustrator object,

layer, and path names.

If your Illustrator file contains a filled and stroked
