10 Using Masks the Workspace panel to make it the current operator. the Workspace panel to make it the current operator. Rectangular Masks Use the rectangular mask to mask out a rectangular portion on the current layer. In the following example, a rectangular mask is used to partially isolate the subject (Little Mermaid) from its original background and composite it over the back layer. To draw a rectangular mask: 1. Select the front layer (the layer to which you want to add a mask). 2. Choose Operators | Mask | Rectangular Mask. The mask operator opens and a default size rectangular mask is added to the layer. 3. In the Workspace panel (F3), double-click the Rectangular Mask object. 4. In the Toolbar (F2), click the Arrow tool . 5. In the viewport, use the bounding box to adjust the size and rotation of the rectangular mask. For more information, see "Editing Object Transform Properties" in Chapter 17, "Paint: Drawing Basics''. 6. Click the Back button to return to the composite and see the results of the masking operation. Note: To switch back to the mask operator to make more adjustments, click the Forward button. You can also double-click an operator in Editing Masks Once you create a mask, you can edit its shape, mode, inner and outer edge softness, and other properties. To see the mask edges more closely, use the Magnify tool to zoom in. See Mask Toolbar. To edit a mask: 1. In the Workspace panel, double-click the mask operator. Mask operator Mask object 2. Show the Toolbar (F2) to access the mask tools, then click the Arrow tool and select the mask object. 3. On the Mask Controls panel, click Modes to edit the mask's color, opacity, feathering, mask mode, and other settings. 246
