26 Tracking To use a roaming reference box: 1. In the viewport, select the reference box(es) that you want to set to roaming. 2. In the Tracker panel, select Roaming from the Reference list. The reference box(es) will be updated at each frame with the contents of the match found in the frame. In other words, the Tracker will always look for a match of the reference feature from the previous frame. Note: If you later switch from Roaming back to Fixed, the Tracker updates the "Fixed" contents with the last Roaming reference feature. Snapping to Update the Reference Box Use the Snap button when the appearance of the reference feature changes suddenly at one or more points in the clip. The Snap button updates the reference feature with the match found in the current frame. For example, you might use the Snap button in a clip where a bouncing popcorn kernel pops, resulting in a completely different shape. To snap to update the reference box: 1. Pause the analysis when the Tracker loses its reference feature. 2. In the Playback controls, click the Previous Keyframe button to return to the last good keyframe. 3. In the Tracker panel, click the Snap button. The reference box moves inside the tracker box and its contents are updated with the match found inside the tracker box. 4. Restart the analysis. The analysis resumes, using the updated contents of the reference box. Using Filters to Ease Tracking Use a filter to make the reference feature(s) easier to track. Once the tracking is complete with your "good" tracking data, you remove the filter. For example, if the reference feature does not have enough contrast, you might use the Color Corrector to increase the contrast. Or you might apply an emboss effect. For more information on applying effects, see "Applying Operators" in Chapter 5, "Compositing''. To use filters before tracking in a Paint operator: 1. Choose Selection | Select Entire Image or press CTRL+SHIFT+A. 2. Choose a filter from the Effects menu. The filter is applied to the clip. 3. Select the target object (the object that should "follow" the tracked motion). 4. In the Tracker panel, click Position, Scale, or Rotation, depending on the type of motion you want to track. 5. Position the Tracker(s) in the viewport. 6. Select Clip and Objects from the Source list. 7. Adjust the Tracker settings as required, and then click the Analyze button. 8. When the tracking is complete, turn off the Tracker, and remove or turn off the effect. To use filters before tracking in a Composite operator: 1. In the Workspace panel, select the source layer (the layer that contains the motion you want to track). 2. Choose a filter from the Operators menu. The filter is applied to the selected layer. 3. To use a roaming reference box:

In the viewport, select the reference box(es) that

you want to set to roaming.

In the Tracker panel, select Roaming from the

Reference list.

The reference box(es) will be updated at each

frame with the contents of the match found in the

frame. In other words, the Tracker will always

look for a match of the reference feature from the

previous frame.

Note:

If you later switch from Roaming back to

Fixed, the Tracker updates the “Fixed” contents
