Changing Particle Colors Several variables contribute to the color of particles: • The colors of the shape image (if the color depth of the shape is Color). • The Life Color for the instant in a particle's life. • The tint color and strength for the emitter (that is, the one tint for all the particle types coming from the emitter properties). • The way the colors are combined (for example, the additive mode for Intense particle types) and the way the particles are moving (that is, if they are on top of each other or drifting away). Changing Particle Transparency Several variables contribute to the transparency of particles: • The alpha channel of the shape image (or pixel value is shape has Gray color depth). • The Life Opacity for the instant in a particle's life. • The Visibility property for the particle type. • The Visibility scaling factor for the emitter. For example, if you want to have completely opaque particles (for sprite animation, for example), you cannot use the Gray color depth. Adding Particle Types You can add a particle type to the selected emitter object to enhance the particle effect. If you select a particle type before you click New Particle Type, a copy is made instead. Otherwise, a default particle type is created. This means it has no color, uses the first particle shape in the library, and has some simple property settings. To add or copy a particle type: 1. In the Particle Controls panel, click Shape to show the Shape controls. 2. To add a default particle type, select an emitter object in the Workspace panel, then select the shape you want in the Shape controls. If you do not select a shape, the particle type will use the first shape in the library. Note: This is a good reason for setting the first shape in the shape library to something such as a blurred circle. 3. To make a copy of a particle type, select the particle type in the Workspace panel. If you want the copy to use the same shape, do not select a shape in the Shape controls. Otherwise, select a different shape. 4. Click New Particle Type. The default or copied particle type appears in the Workspace panel above the other particle types. Deleting Particle Types If a particle type is not needed, you can delete it. For example, you can see if a particle type enhances the emitter by turning it off. If the particle effect looks better without it, delete the particle type. 366

Changing Particle Colors

Several variables contribute to the color of particles:

Note:
