20 Animating Text Note: You can also right-click a gradient tag and set an opacity from the opacity palette. To distribute the tags evenly: Click the Distribute Tags button . To reverse the order of the opacity or color tags: Click the Reverse Tags button . Applying Textures Use the Texture option to use a clip or image (or any operator) as the texture for the Face or Outline attributes of a text object. Note: The Texture controls in the Text operator are identical to the Reveal controls in the Paint operator. Source List Use the Source list to select an operator to use as the Texture source for the text object. Select Current to use the footage currently in the Text operator. Select Pick Operator to access the Select Source dialog. This allows you to choose another operator as the texture source. From this dialog, you can also import footage from disk to use as a texture source. To apply a texture to a text object: 1. Select the text object. 2. In the text Attributes panel, click Face. Note: A texture can also be applied to the Outline attribute of a text object. 3. In the Face controls, click Texture. The Texture controls appear and the text object is filled with the current operator by default. Source list Note: The texture is applied to each character. If you want a full-frame image to appear throughout a text block, use the Mask mode option in Paint. To select a different operator as a texture source: 1. From the Source list, select Pick Operator. The Select Source dialog appears. 2. Select the operator (the image or clip) you want to use as the texture source. 3. If necessary, click Open Footage to import new footage into the workspace. 4. Click OK. The new texture appears in the text object. Note: The Source list keeps a record of recently used sources, so you can use the list to quickly 534
