Editing Masks ❚❘❘ To make a control point inactive: 1. In the Mask (or Paint) operator, select a mask object. Note: Mask control points, including control points added to a mask, are active by default. 2. Do either of the following: • Show the Toolbar (F2) and select the Edit Control Points tool , or press TAB to switch options. • Click on a mask control point. Note: To avoid inadvertently moving the control point, you can drag a selection box around it to select the point. You can now access the Active button. In the Toolbar (F2), the Control Points option is automatically selected. 2. Enable Animate (A). 3. Go to the frame you want to begin rotoscoping, and draw a mask around the subject to be isolated. Note: Invert is disabled by default. If you want to see the edges of the subject while rotoscoping, enable Invert and set the Opacity of the mask to 0. You can also use Outlines Only. Active control point option 3. Disable the Active button to make the control point inactive. Note: To toggle a control point between active and inactive, you can also press ALT and click on the control point. 4. Move forward (or backward, if rotoscoping backward) in the clip. Rotoscoping The following example illustrates the use of active control points in a complex rotoscoping project. The subject being masked drastically changes shape throughout the clip, requiring a different number of control points at different frames. 1. Add a Draw Mask operator to the layer you are rotoscoping. Note: You can also use a Rectangular or Elliptical Mask as a starting point. 249
