Set Ripple or Overwrite mode. See Setting Ripple and Overwrite Modes. 2. Position the cursor at the edge of the segment you want to trim. A trim cursor appears to indicate whether you will be trimming the tail of the outgoing segment, the head of the incoming segment, or both. Use To Trim the tail of the outgoing segment. Trim the head of the incoming segment. Edit the tail of the outgoing segment and the head of the incoming segment (a roll edit). 3. Adjust the position of the cursor until the appropriate one appears. 4. Click and drag left or right to trim the segment. Note: To snap the head or tail to the nearest marker, the Current Time indicator, or frame 0, while trimming, press SHIFT while dragging. However, there is no snap when trimming the head of a segment in Ripple mode. Slipping Segments You can slip segments to change the frames of source footage (from the original clip) used as a segment in the Edit timeline. Slipping simultaneously trims the head and tail of a segment without changing its position in the edit sequence. Other segments in the sequence are not affected and the total duration of the sequence does not change. Note: Slipping does not change the source footage being referenced. It only changes which frames from the source footage are being used. To change the source footage, see Replacing Segments and Frames. To slip a segment: 1. Position the cursor over the segment you want to slip. 2. CTRL-drag the segment in the direction you want to slip. The slip cursor appears and a shadow appears under the segment. The shadow indicates the total duration of the source material and the frames being referenced by the segment. Move the segment to the position on the source material that contains the frames you want to use and then release the mouse button. The segment is updated to reflect the new source material. Sliding Segments You can slide segments to change their positions in the Edit timeline. With Ripple enabled, subsequent segments are moved in the Edit timeline and the total duration of the sequence is affected. If Overwrite is enabled, you can slide segments only if 396

To trim a segment:

Set Ripple or Overwrite mode. See

Setting Ripple

and Overwrite Modes

Position the cursor at the edge of the segment you

want to trim.

A trim cursor appears to indicate whether you

will be trimming the tail of the outgoing segment,

the head of the incoming segment, or both.

Adjust the position of the cursor until the

appropriate one appears.

Click and drag left or right to trim the segment.

Note:

To snap the head or tail to the nearest

marker, the Current Time indicator, or frame 0,

while trimming, press

HIFT

while dragging.

However, there is no snap when trimming the

head of a segment in Ripple mode.

Slipping Segments

You can slip segments to change the frames of source

footage (from the original clip) used as a segment in

the Edit timeline. Slipping simultaneously trims the

head and tail of a segment without changing its

position in the edit sequence. Other segments in the

sequence are not affected and the total duration of

the sequence does not change.

Note:

Slipping does not change the source footage

being referenced. It only changes which frames from

To slip a segment:

Position the cursor over the segment you want to

slip.
