16 Introduction to Paint The brush is saved in the Brushes palette. You can use the custom brush to paint as you would any other brush. To use a custom brush: 1. Select the custom brush from the Brushes palette. Selected brush The brush source is linked to the custom brush until you choose to commit it. Changes you make to the CustomBrush Paint branch are reflected in the custom brush. Freehand strokes in Paint using custom brush 2. In the Brush Source controls, choose a mode from the list. ▲ If you want to later modify the brush source, make sure to save the workspace before closing it. If the brush source is not saved, the brush is saved in the brush set but it cannot be edited. Using Custom Brushes Once you create your custom brush, you can set your brush to Use True Colors, Use Luminance, or Use Alpha. Mode list Choose Use True Colors Use Luminance Use Alpha To Use the colors used in creating the custom brush. Selecting a color from the Modes controls or Swatches palette has no effect. Use the luminance values and shape to create a custom brush of varying degrees of transparency. Select a color in the Modes controls or the Swatches palette. Disregard the colors used in creating the custom brush and only use the shape of the brush as defined by its alpha channel. Select a solid color in the Modes controls or the Swatches palette. 436
