Applying Operators ❚❘❘ 2. Adjust the operator's properties. Advance to the next keyframe and adjust the properties if needed. Animating Operators You animate an operator by changing its properties at different points in the clip. You animate operators by setting keyframes or by creating expressions. Note: If you want to start the animation at another frame than the first frame and if you do not want a keyframe to be added automatically at the first frame, check the Combustion Preferences by choosing File | Preferences (CTRL+;), click the Animation category under Host, and make sure Automatically Add First Key Frame is not selected. For more information on animating, see Chapter 12, "Creating Animations'' and see Chapter 13, "Creating Expressions''. To animate an operator using keyframes: 1. Select an operator in the Workspace panel. The operator controls appear. 2. If animation is not already enabled, click the Animate button, or press A. The Animate button is red when enabled. 3. On the first frame of the animation, set the operator's properties to determine how you want the operator to look at the beginning of the animation. This sets the first keyframe if Automatically Add First Key Frame is not selected in the Combustion Preferences. 4. Use the frame controls to advance to the last frame of the animation. Adjust the properties to create the effect you want at the end of the animation. This sets another keyframe on the last frame. 5. Play the clip to see the result of your animation. 6. You can modify the animation by moving to other frames and adjusting the properties. A keyframe is set on every frame where you adjust a property. For more information on animating by setting keyframes, see Chapter 12, "Creating Animations''. For information on animating by creating expressions, see Chapter 13, "Creating Expressions''. Copying or Moving Operators Use cut, copy, and paste commands to copy or move operators between layers anywhere in the workspace. By changing the stacking order of the operators in a composite, you create different effects. To move an operator within the same layer, click and drag the operator in the Workspace panel or in the Timeline. To move an operator outside the composite, use cut and paste commands. To move an operator to a different composite: 1. In the Workspace panel, select the operator. 2. Choose Edit | Cut (CTRL+X). 3. In the Workspace panel, click the location where you want the paste the operator and then choose Edit | Paste (CTRL+V). The operator is added to the selected location. To copy an operator: 1. In the Workspace panel, select the operator. 2. Choose Edit | Copy (CTRL+C). 3. In the Workspace panel, click the location where you want the copy to appear and then choose Edit | Paste (CTRL+V). needed.

Animating Operators

You animate an operator by changing its properties

at different points in the clip. You animate operators

by setting keyframes or by creating expressions.

Note:

If you want to start the animation at another

frame than the first frame and if you do not want a

keyframe to be added automatically at the first

frame, check the

Combustion

Preferences by

choosing File | Preferences (

To animate an operator using keyframes:

Select an operator in the Workspace panel.

The operator controls appear.

Copying or Moving Operators
