Creating Color Casts ❚❘❘ 3. Sample the image to see the hue shift in the luma vectorscope. Enable the Plot color picker and then sample the color range in the image you want to hue shift. The sample is outlined in the vectorscope. 4. Click and drag the Hue field while monitoring the vectorscope and the image. The selected color content (or entire image) shifts through the color range. 5. If necessary, you can change the saturation of the hue by dragging the Sat field-drag right to increase saturation or left to decrease it. The selected color range moves toward the perimeter or center of the 2D luma histogram. Creating Color Casts You can use the Midtones trackball to create a color cast that affects the chroma in the entire image without affecting the luma. Create a color cast when you want to emphasize a color range to create an artistic effect or when you want to refine an existing cast. For example, create or refine a bluish cast to convey a cooler atmosphere. Note: Before you create a color cast, you should correct color imbalances in the image or clip. See Correcting Color Imbalances. To create a color cast: 1. Click Basic to display the Basic controls. Note: You can determine the color of an existing cast by dragging right in the Saturation field to temporarily increase the saturation while monitoring the sample in the 2D vectorscope. Click Undo once you determine the color of the cast. 2. Drag the midtones triangles to add a color cast to a specific segment of the image's luminance range. To add a color cast to the entire image, drag the midtones triangles so that they span the entire luminance range. 3. While viewing a vectorscope and the image, drag the Midtones trackball toward the color you want to increase in the clip or image. For example, to add more yellow to the image, drag the Midtones trackball toward yellow. In the 2D or 3D vectorscope, the colors update to reflect your changes. In the image window, the color in your clip changes according to the direction in which the trackball is being dragged. Note: When you drag the Midtones trackball, the RGB curves in the 2D luma histogram also reflect the changes you make. 4. To modify the color in the highlights or shadows of the image, drag the Highlights or Shadows trackball. 5. To increase or decrease the saturation of the cast, drag the Sat field-drag right to increase saturation and left to decrease it. Hint: You can make slight modifications to the hue of the cast using the Hue field. Readjusting Color After a Color Correction When color correcting clips, colors that you do not want to alter may be modified in the color correction process. Use the Warp trackball in the Basic controls to readjust a specific range of color. You can also adjust the luminance of the selected color using the Luma field. To readjust colors after a color correction: 1. Click Basic to display the Basic controls. 2. Select Warp from the Trackball option box. 677
