Using Grids, Guides, and Rulers ❚❘❘ The system running an Autodesk Editing or Effects product that has the Stone filesystem acts as the server, and the machine running Combustion acts as a client and taps directly into the server. You can add Wiretap servers to the browser and view their libraries and clips as you would any other directory. When accessing clips on the Wiretap server, you do not need to copy the metadata or media locally; the libraries on the Wiretap server are opened but the original sources and edits remain intact. This means that no additional storage is required. If you make changes to a clip in Combustion, the clip on the Wiretap server is not altered. You must write changes to clips to the Combustion local storage. You cannot write clips to the Wiretap server from Combustion in this version. In addition to Combustion 2008, the following are required in order for Wiretap to work: • An Autodesk Editing or Effects product: Inferno, Flame, Flint, Smoke, Fire, Autodesk® Backdraft®, or Autodesk® Backdraft® Conform. • Stone and Autodesk® Wire® installed with the listed Autodesk products. • Wiretap 1.1 server plug-in, also installed with listed Autodesk Editing and Effects products. • TCP/IP networking To add a Wiretap server: 1. In the file browser, choose Add Wiretap Server from the Location list. Location list 2. In the Wiretap Host Manager dialog that appears, enter the path and filename to the required Wiretap server. 3. Click Add. The server is added and appears in the tree view, under "Wiretap". You can browse the contents of the server as you would any other directory. Click a server to select it and press DELETE. The server is removed from the browser. Using Grids, Guides, and Rulers Grids, guides, and rulers are helpful tools for judging distances and spatial relationships. They can also help you to align objects to an exact point by snapping them to the grid or guides. The grid is a series of equidistant horizontal and vertical lines used as a background alignment tool. Guides are individual horizontal and vertical lines that you place at a specific location. 41
