Modifying Transitions ❚❘❘ Hiding Transitions During Playback You can choose to hide one or more transitions when playing to reduce the amount of RAM required and increase playback speed. When you hide transitions, they appear as cuts during playback. To hide a transition during playback: 1. In the Edit timeline, click the transition you want to hide. 2. In the Transition controls, click Disabled. You can only trim the number of frames specified by the duration of the transition. To increase the number of available frames, you must increase the transition duration. See Modifying Transition Settings. To trim a transition: 1. Position the cursor over the edge of the transition you want to trim. A trim cursor appears to indicate whether you will be trimming the head or tail of the transition. If the transition position is set to Middle, head and tail frames are trimmed simultaneously to preserve the position. Use To Trim the tail of the transition. Trim the head of the transition. 3. To view the transition during playback, select it and click the Disabled button again. Modifying Transitions When you bring two clips together to create a transition, there are usually a number of frames left over from the incoming and outgoing clips. You can modify the transition by trimming and sliding to use these head and tail frames. You can also modify the settings of the transition at any time. Note: Transition settings apply for the duration of the transition, and cannot be animated. Trimming Transitions Trim to add or remove frames from dissolve or wipe transitions. Combustion keeps track of the source material that goes into transitions, so you can go back and reintroduce frames you had previously trimmed out. Note: To trim the head and tail asymmetrically, choose Custom from the Position list before trimming. 2. Adjust the position of the cursor until the appropriate one appears. 3. Click and drag left or right to trim the transition. Sliding Transitions Slide transitions to change the position in relation to the outgoing and incoming segments. To slide a transition: 1. Click the transition you want to slide. The slide cursor appears. 2. Click and drag left or right to slide the transition. The transition slides to the new position, and the Position field in the Transition controls is set to Custom automatically. 401
