Combustion automatically adds a Composite operator when you import or nest layers. • Edit operators, which edit images in a linear fashion. For more information on the Edit operator, see Chapter 15, "Editing Clips''. • Footage operators, which determine how the source footage is interpreted in the composite. For more information on the Footage operator, see "Changing Footage Source Settings" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. Applying an Operator to a Layer You can add operators to any layer in a composite. To apply an operator to a layer: 1. Do one of the following: • Right-click a layer in the Workspace panel or the Timeline, choose Operators and select an operator. • Select a layer in the Workspace panel or the Timeline, choose Operators and select an operator. • Right-click a layer node (in the Schematic view), choose Operators and select an operator. The operator controls appear. The operator is applied to the selected layer over its entire duration. 2. Adjust the operator controls. Applying an Operator to a Composite You can add operators to the output of a composite without nesting the composite. To apply an operator to a composite: 1. Do one of the following: • Right-click a composite in the Workspace panel or the Timeline, choose Add Operator and select an operator. • Select a composite in the Workspace panel or the Timeline, choose Operators and select an operator. • Right-click a composite operator node (in the Schematic view), choose Add Operator and select an operator. The operator controls appear. The operator is applied to the selected composite over its entire duration. 2. Adjust the operator controls. Note: To see the result of an operator applied to a composite, you must show the operator in the viewport. Double-click the operator to make it the current operator. Applying an Operator to a Nested Layer When you add operators to nested layers, the operators modify the nested composite within the nested layer. In the following example, the shot in the lower right corner of the composite is itself a composite of two layers, a talent keyed over a background. It stands out because it is too bright and clear. 152

Applying an Operator to a Layer

You can add operators to any layer in a composite.

To apply an operator to a layer:

operator.

operator.

Right-click a layer node (in the Schematic view),

choose Operators and select an operator.

You can add operators to the output of a composite

without nesting the composite.

To apply an operator to a composite:
