Note: Lower the frame size to quickly render a preview of the clip. 2. When defining a custom size, enable the Lock button to constrain the aspect ratio. Choosing Which Channels to Render You can choose which channels to render into a movie or sequence of images. For detailed information, see Chapter 9, "Working with Image Channels''. To choose a channel: On the Output Settings panel, set the Channels options, as required. The following options are available. Select To Color Render only the RGB color channels Alpha Render only the alpha channel. This creates an 8-bit image. Color+ Alpha Render both the RGB color channels and the alpha channel. This creates a 32-bit image. Premultiply Color Combine the color information with the alpha channel information using black as a base. This option is available if either Color or Color+Alpha is selected. For movies or images saved with the Color option (that is, no alpha channel), enable this option for best results. Invert Alpha Invert the alpha channel. When this option is enabled, pixels that were opaque become transparent, and vice versa. This option is available if Alpha or Color+Alpha is selected. Setting Field Dominance You can control the field dominance used in the final render. Creating a movie with fields means that every frame in the rendered movie is made up of two quickly alternating lines of picture information that update at twice the frame rate of the clip. For example, NTSC video plays at 30 frames per second, or 60 fields per second. These settings are usually determined by the type of video card you are using to play back movies or to write them to tape or disc. The field that is drawn on the monitor first is known as the even, or upper field. The field that is drawn on the monitor second is known as the odd, or lower field. If you choose to use field dominance, you can also apply 3:2 pulldown to the rendered movie. 3:2 pulldown refers to the process used to transfer footage shot from 24 frames per second film to 30 frames per second NTSC video. You can also choose to disregard field dominance completely and render in frames, creating whole pictures as opposed to video information. To set field dominance: 1. On the Output Settings panel, select an option from the Fields list. The following options are available. Select No fields Upper first Lower first To Render frames without field interpolation. Render the upper/even field first. Render the lower/odd field first. 2. To re-apply 3:2 pulldown, select a pulldown sequence option from the 3:2 Pulldown list.
