6 Using Schematic View Main input In the second example, one Footage operator is the main input and another is the secondary input for a Displace operator. The Displace operator requires a main input (the image being displaced) and a secondary input (the image used as the source map for the displacement). In the Displace Controls panel, you can see the secondary input is the Layer control. This layer is the secondary input Connecting Nodes In the Schematic view, you can connect nodes in several ways. When you drag from an output connection point on one node to an input connection point on another, the input connection point becomes highlighted, indicating that a valid connection can be made. You can also drag from an input connection point to an output connection point. To connect nodes: • Select the red output of a node and drag to the gray input, thumbnail, or label of another node. The connection follows the cursor. • Select the gray input of a node and drag back to the red output, thumbnail, or label of another node. • Drag one end of a connection away from a connection point (input or output), and drag it to the corresponding connection point of another node. (For example, drag the output of a Footage node to the output of a Paint node.) • Press SHIFT and drag one of the nodes to the other, so that the output area of one node brushes, or kisses, the input area of the other. A white connection line appears when the two nodes kiss. Release the mouse button to establish the connection. To cancel the operation, press SHIFT again while dragging. If a choice needs to be made when you make the connection, the inputs are displayed in a menu. Press ESC or click outside of the menu to cancel the operation. Notice that when you drag over a connection point the cursor changes to a cross-hair, indicating that you are performing a connection rather than making a selection. Also, as you drag the cursor over a connection point, the connection between the two connection points is highlighted, indicating that a valid connection can be made. 168

In the second example, one Footage operator is the

main input and another is the secondary input for a

Displace operator. The Displace operator requires a

main input (the image being displaced) and a

for the displacement).

In the Displace Controls panel, you can see the

secondary input is the Layer control.

Connecting Nodes

In the Schematic view, you can connect nodes in

several ways.

When you drag from an output connection point on

one node to an input connection point on another,

the input connection point becomes highlighted,

indicating that a valid connection can be made.

You can also drag from an input connection point to

an output connection point.

To connect nodes:

•

Select the red output of a node and drag to the gray

input, thumbnail, or label of another node. The
