Backburner Manager ❚❘❘ Workgroup or Domain A workgroup is an organizational unit used to group computers that do not belong to a domain. This setup is typical if you are setting up a simple network for the purpose of network rendering. A domain is a more complex way of grouping servers that share a common security policy and user account database. A domain requires you to set up a Primary Domain controller. You should select the Domain option only if your network administrator has a domain already set up and functioning correctly. Shutdown-Quits the Manager application. Edit Menu The Edit menu gives you access to the Backburner Manager General Properties and to the Backburner Manager Log settings. General Settings-Displays the Backburner Manager General Properties dialog. The General Properties dialog contains the configuration settings for the Network Manager. Backburner Manager Backburner Manager resides on one workstation, serving as a hub that manages network rendering jobs and their component processes. When you submit a Combustion workspace for network rendering, a network render job is created and submitted to a workstation running Backburner Manager. Backburner Manager Controls Backburner Manager runs as a foreground process on your desktop and remains active unless specifically shut down. The Backburner Manager interface includes a menu bar and a list window. The menu bar provides access to the manager properties and display options. The list window displays log information for the network render. File Menu Use the File menu options to either close or shut down the Manager. Close-Closes the Manager application. The Manager continues running, but is minimized to the Windows notification area. The default settings should work in most cases, but certain situations may require adjustments. The information specified in the Backburner Manager General Properties dialog is contained in the backburner.xml file (in the Network subdirectory). For information on the backburner.xml file, see About the backburner.xml File. If you run the Manager and the backburner.xml file does not exist, you are prompted to configure it with this dialog. When configuration is complete, click OK to run the Manager. 803

Workgroup or Domain

A workgroup is an organizational unit used to group

computers that do not belong to a domain. This

setup is typical if you are setting up a simple network

for the purpose of network rendering.

A domain is a more complex way of grouping servers

Backburner Manager

Backburner

Manager resides on one workstation,

When you submit a

Combustion

workspace for

network rendering, a network render job is created

Backburner

Manager.

Backburner Manager Controls

Backburner

Manager runs as a foreground process
