5 Compositing contain all the keyframes that were in the original layer in their original positions. For additional editing capabilities, use the Edit operator. See "Adding an Edit Operator" in Chapter 15, "Editing Clips''. Moving Layers Move a layer in time to set the layer's start time or end time. When you move a layer along the Timeline, its operators and keyframes move with the layer. To move a layer along the Timeline: 1. Show the Timeline (F6) and choose Overview mode. 2. Select the layer in the Timeline list. 3. Do one of the following: • Drag the layer's duration bar left or right to move the layer. • Go to the time frame or timecode where you want to move the in point and press SHIFT+, (comma). • Go to the time frame or timecode where you want to move the out point and press SHIFT+. (period). The layer's operators and keyframes move with the layer. Note: When you drag trimmed layers, the unused footage moves with the layer. You can move the layer relative to its footage too, by slipping it. See Slipping Layers. Trimming Layers Trim a layer by setting its in and out points to define the viewable portion of the layer. To trim a layer: 1. Show the Timeline (F6) and choose Overview mode. 2. Select the layer in the Timeline list. 3. Trim the in point of the layer by doing one of the following: • Go to the time frame or timecode where you want to trim the in point of the layer and press , (comma). • Drag the layer's in point to the right. Trimmed layer's in point When you trim a layer, you trim the layer's visibility in time. In this example, the layer's duration prior trimming was from frame 0 to frame 59. By trimming the layer's in point at frame 10, the layer is visible from frame 10 to frame 59. The lighter duration bar shows the viewable portion of the layer and its operators whereas the darker duration bar shows the hidden portion of the layer and its operators. 4. Trim the out point of the layer by doing one of the following: • Go to the time frame or timecode where you want to trim the out point of the layer and press . (period). • Drag the layer's out point to the left. 142

Moving Layers

Move a layer in time to set the layer’s start time or

end time. When you move a layer along the

Timeline, its operators and keyframes move with the

layer.

To move a layer along the Timeline:

Show the Timeline (

) and choose Overview

mode.

Select the layer in the Timeline list.

Do one of the following:

•

Drag the layer’s duration bar left or right to move

the layer.

•

Go to the time frame or timecode where you

want to move the in point and press

HIFT

(comma).

•

Go to the time frame or timecode where you

want to move the out point and press

HIFT

(period).

The layer’s operators and keyframes move with

the layer.

Note:

When you drag trimmed layers, the unused
