Using the Playback Controls ❚❘❘ current frame is unchanged: the filmstrip scroll bar is independent of the frame controls. To use the filmstrip to go to a frame in the clip: 1. Drag the scroll bar until the desired frame is visible. 2. Click the thumbnail to go to that frame. The frame number is highlighted in yellow to indicate that it is the current frame and it appears in the active viewport. Customizing the Filmstrip By default, the filmstrip displays thumbnails vertically. You can place it horizontally below the viewports, or choose to hide it altogether. You can customize the display units to display either timecode or frame numbers, change the appearance of the thumbnails, and set the ratio of thumbnails to frames. To customize the filmstrip: 1. Click the right arrow at the upper-right corner of the filmstrip. The Filmstrip menu appears. 2. Set the following options, as required. Use To Mini, Small, Select the size for the filmstrip Medium, Large, thumbnails. or Huge Horizontal or Vertical Select the orientation of the filmstrip. Show Time Show or hide the timecode (or frame number) under each thumbnail. Always Show Current Frame Automatically scroll the filmstrip so that the thumbnail of the current frame is always visible. Render All Cache all thumbnails in the filmstrip. Use this option to build a "preview" of your animation with the filmstrip, then scrub smoothly through it using the scroll bar. Use Zoom In Zoom Out Go to Current Frame 1 Frame 2, 5, or 10 Frames 1, 2, 5, or 10 Seconds To Expand the thumbnail view by decreasing the interval between frames. You can also click the button on the filmstrip. Contract the thumbnail view by increasing the interval between frames. You can also click the button on the filmstrip. Scroll the filmstrip so that the thumbnail of the current frame is visible. Use this option when "Always Show Current Frame" is deselected. Display a thumbnail for every frame. Display thumbnails for every 2, 5, or 10 frames. Display thumbnails for every 1, 2, 5, or 10 seconds of a clip. The number of thumbnails that are skipped depends on the frame rate. For example, a filmstrip zoom level of 1 second displays a thumbnail for every 30th frame in an NTSC project, and every 25th frame in a PAL project. Using the Playback Controls Combustion provides real-time playback of composites and other projects. Real-time playback is limited by the amount of RAM available on your system. You can use these controls to preview your work by playing or scrubbing through the clips. Note: For synchronized playback of two or more viewports, SHIFT-click the viewports before using the playback controls. The following playback controls are available: Click To Go to the beginning of the clip. Go to the previous frame. Play the clip backward. Play the clip forward. Go to the next frame. Go to the end of the clip. 35
