Slipping Layers, Show the Timeline

Trimmed layer's out point Editing Layers in the Timeline ❚❘❘ 5. Drag the layer's darker duration bar. In this example the layer's in point is trimmed at frame 10 and the layer's out point is trimmed at frame 40. The darker duration bar shows the hidden portion of the layer and its operators. When you play the clip, the layer is visible from frame 10 to frame 40. Slipping Layers Slip a layer to move the hidden portion of the layer in time. You can choose to slip the layer with or without its keyframes. To slip a layer independently of its keyframes: 1. Show the Timeline (F6) and choose Overview mode. 2. Select the layer in the Timeline list. 3. Trim the in point of the layer by doing one of the following: • Go to the frame where you want to trim the in point of the layer and press , (comma). • Drag the layer's in point to the right. 4. Trim the out point of the layer by doing one of the following: • Go to the frame where you want to trim the out point of the layer and press . (period). • Drag the layer's out point to the left. The dark gray bar slips under the layer object. As you drag the darker duration bar, the frame number or timecode displays the position of the layer in time. The layer slipped in time but its keyframes remained in their original positions. To slip a layer with its keyframes: CTRL-drag the layer's darker duration bar. The dark gray bar slips under the layer object. The layer and its keyframes slipped in time. Splitting Layers You can copy or duplicate a layer and then adjust each layer's visibility so it appears and disappears at different times over the duration of the clip. A faster way of doing this is to split a layer. To split a layer: 1. Show the Timeline (F6) and choose Overview mode. 2. Select the layer that you want to split. 143
