Using Paint in a Composite ❚❘❘ Paint objects follow motion in the background clip or other animated Paint objects. For information on using the Tracker, see Chapter 26, "Tracking''. Using Paint in a Composite Use Paint in conjunction with a composite to paint on one layer or over several layers at a time. For instance, use Paint to change a subject's eye color, remove wires, or fix video drop-out on a selected layer. You can also use Paint to create text effects and cartoon animations and add them over all the layers in the composite. You can hide Paint objects, delete Paint objects, or move Paint objects in the process tree. You can also open footage into a Paint branch, or create a Paint branch with solid footage. For details, see "Creating Branches in the Workspace" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. Paint operator 3. Show the Toolbar (F2) to access the drawing tools. You are ready to begin painting. For information on using the Paint drawing tools, see "Creating Paint Objects" in Chapter 17, "Paint: Drawing Basics''. 4. When you are finished painting, you can return to the composite by going to the Workspace panel (F4) and double-clicking the Composite operator or by clicking the Back button . Painting on a Layer You can add a Paint operator to a single layer. You do this when you need to retouch a portion of a layer within a composite, create text effects on a layer, or add any kind of drawing or animation effects to a layer. You can also use Paint operators to select or mask areas of a layer. To follow this procedure, you must first create a composite that includes at least one layer. To paint on a layer in a composite: 1. In the Workspace panel, Timeline, or viewport, select the layer upon which you want to paint. 2. Choose Operators | Paint. A Paint operator appears under the selected layer in the Workspace panel. Note: You can return to the Paint operator at any time to make changes to the Paint objects. To do so, double-click the Paint operator in the Workspace panel. Painting Over Multiple Layers You can use Paint to paint over multiple layers simultaneously. This is useful for creating banners or slates for TV programs, retouching an entire composite, creating cartoon animations over composites, and so on. There are several ways to paint over multiple layers simultaneously: • Add the Paint operator downstream of the Composite operator to paint on the entire composite. 411

Using Paint in a Composite

Use Paint in conjunction with a composite to paint

on one layer or over several layers at a time. For

instance, use Paint to change a subject’s eye color,

remove wires, or fix video drop-out on a selected

layer. You can also use Paint to create text effects and

cartoon animations and add them over all the layers

in the composite.

You can hide Paint objects, delete Paint objects, or

move Paint objects in the process tree.

You can also open footage into a Paint branch, or

create a Paint branch with solid footage. For details,

see

“Creating Branches in the Workspace” in

Chapter 4, “Building Workspaces’’

Painting on a Layer

You can add a Paint operator to a single layer. You do

this when you need to retouch a portion of a layer

within a composite, create text effects on a layer, or

add any kind of drawing or animation effects to a

layer.

You can also use Paint operators to select or mask

areas of a layer.

To follow this procedure, you must first create a

composite that includes at least one layer.

To paint on a layer in a composite:

In the Workspace panel, Timeline, or viewport,

select the layer upon which you want to paint.

Choose Operators | Paint.

A Paint operator appears under the selected layer

in the Workspace panel.

Show the Toolbar (

) to access the drawing

tools. You are ready to begin painting. For

“Creating Paint Objects” in Chapter 17, “Paint:

When you are finished painting, you can return

to the composite by going to the Workspace panel
