19 Paint: Drawing Selections Lasso Text Selection Rectangular, Elliptical, and Polygon (Bezier, and B-Spline) Selections Magic Wand Recall that a triangle in the lower right corner of a tool icon indicates it contains several tools. Clickdrag the icon to display all of the tools it contains. The following selection tools are available. Select To Draw a freehand selection. When you release the mouse button, a line is drawn from the first to last position of the cursor to close the selection. For more information, see Creating a Lasso Selection. Select adjacent areas of similar brightness and color. Increase the tolerance to include more shades in the selection. For more information, see Creating a Magic Wand Selection. Draw a rectangular selection. The selection is drawn out from a corner as you drag. For more information, see Creating a Rectangular or Elliptical Selection. Draw an elliptical selection. The selection is drawn out from a corner as you drag. For more information, see Creating a Rectangular or Elliptical Selection. Draw a Bezier polygon selection. Click on the image to create control points as needed, and click the first control point to close the polygon. For more information, see Creating a Polygon Selection. Select To Draw a B-spline polygon selection. Click on the image to create control points as needed, and click the first control point to close the polygon. For more information, see Creating a Polygon Selection. Draw a text selection. For more information, see Creating a Text Selection. Setting Up the Selection Marquee When you create a selection object, a marquee appears to indicate the limits of the selection. You can customize the way the marquee appears for feathered selections so that it indicates the inner or outer limit of the feathering (or anywhere in between). To customize the tightness of selection marquees: 1. Choose File | Preferences (CTRL+;). The Preferences dialog appears. 2. In the Host category, click General. The General preferences appear. 3. Set the Marquee Threshold field as follows: Value 1 128 254 To Draw the selection marquee at the outermost limit of the feathering. Draw the selection marquee at the halfway mark between where the feathering starts and the outer limit of the feathering. Draw the selection marquee at the innermost limit of the feathering. 4. Click OK to accept the changes. To show/hide the selection marquee: Choose Window | Show/Hide Marquee or press CTRL+H. 504

Recall that a triangle in the lower right corner of a

tool icon indicates it contains several tools. Click-

drag the icon to display all of the tools it contains.

The following selection tools are available.

Setting Up the Selection Marquee

When you create a selection object, a marquee

appears to indicate the limits of the selection. You

can customize the way the marquee appears for

feathered selections so that it indicates the inner or

outer limit of the feathering (or anywhere in

between).

To customize the tightness of selection marquees:

Choose File | Preferences (

In the Host category, click General.

The General preferences appear.

Set the Marquee Threshold field as follows:

Click OK to accept the changes.
