Working with the Timeline ❚❘❘ Note: You can also double-click at a specific frame in the Timeline to move to that frame. To scrub through a clip: Do one of the following: • Click and drag the Current Frame field. • Click and drag the scrub bar to scrub through the animation. For finer control, press CTRL while dragging. Drag right to move ahead in the clip; drag left to move back. By default, when scrubbing you see a wireframe preview of the motion. To preview images, enable Feedback. Changing Display Units You can change the Current Frame field to display SMPTE timecode or frame numbers. To change the display units: 1. Choose File | Preferences (CTRL+;). The Preferences dialog appears. 2. Select the General Host category. 3. Select a unit from the Display Time As list. Setting In and Out Points You can set playback in and out points to limit the range of frames that are played back. Combustion always plays back between the specified frame range. To play your entire clip, make sure the in and out points are at the first and last frame, respectively. If you start playback when the current frame is outside the range, at first Combustion ignores the in and out points and plays normally until it moves into the range specified by the in and out points. At this point, the in and out points are respected if the playback is set to loop or Ping Pong mode. To set playback in and out points: 1. To set the in point, drag the green marker under the scrub bar to the appropriate frame. 2. To set the out point, drag the red marker under the scrub bar to the appropriate frame. Working with the Timeline When creating an animation, use the Timeline to manage how layers appear in the viewports. You also use the Timeline to display the categories and channels that you want to animate. Select from the following options. Select Timecode Frames (from 0) Frames (from 1) To Display time in SMPTE timecode. Display time in total number of frames, starting at zero. Display time in total number of frames, starting at one. Note: You can also toggle this preference by clicking the Duration box in the playback controls. Navigating in the Timeline You can use various hotkeys to select objects in the Timeline list or navigate between keyframes. You can also incrementally navigate forward or backward a specific number of frames. To navigate in the Timeline list: 1. Select the Timeline or press F4. 2. Do any of the following: Press CTRL+UP ARROW To select The previous object in the Timeline list. 285

Note:

Changing Display Units

Working with the Timeline
